Woofing it up with the St. Tammany Humane Society

Inclement weather didn’t keep the crowds away from Barq’s “Woofstock” festival on April 1. The Sunday afternoon affair still drew 1,000 people and more than 500 dogs to Covington’s Bogue Falaya Park.

A benefit for the St. Tammany Humane Society, the all-day event began with a low cost vet clinic, which offered discounts on heartworm tests, medications and vaccines. Food vendors included Friend’s restaurant and Bateau’s Seafood, among others. A silent auction featured items donated by the Marriott, artist Jim Tweedy, Pelican Athletic Club, Beau Chene Country Club, Gilboy’s Health Club and others. Musical guests were the Jukebox Heroes, the Abita Blues Band and Moonshine Jug.

Adults and children also enjoyed space walks, rock climbing, crafts and other festival-like activities. And it’s safe to say that there were plenty of tails wagging, especially that of Molly, a red lab who had been in the animal shelter for a long time, and found a home at the pet adoption.

The event raised more than $90,000 for the St. Tammany Humane Society.
