The Krewe of Olympia hits the high seas

O n Jan. 20, the Mystic Krewe of Olympia held its 42nd annual Bal Masque at the Castine Center in Mandeville. The satirical theme of the tableau was “The Pirates of Pontchartrain,” with the pirate theme carried out in the festive decorations, float titles and the colorful pirate costumes of the krewe.

Following the krewe’s “feisty” entrance into the ballroom, the masked Captain entered ahead of his officers to greet their guests and proceed with the presentation of the Royal Court.

King Zeus XLII, whose identity remains secret, made his royal entrance, along with Queen Jayne Michon Champagne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Champagne of Covington.

The Queen wore a strapless bodice gown with contrasting champagne organza that was embellished with beautiful hand-embroidered seed pearls and Swarovski crystals.

Presented as maids were: Emily Patricia Abide, Paige Helen Barnett, Catherine Cecile Billeaud, Kimberly Lynn Broadbridge, Margaret Susan Ellis, Casey Elizabeth Claire Kramer, Catherine Mary Robin, Simone Salmen Sterck.

Ladies-in-waiting to the queen were: Avery Elizabeth Autin, Anna Elizabeth Autin, Mary Brent Brown, Avery Elizabeth Buras, Megan Lane Feringa, Ellen Ashley Feringa, Kendall Gail Kramer, Madison Bryce McDaniel, Rachel Lynn Nolan, and Caroline Frances Stafford.

Pages to the Royal Majesties were: Alexander Edwards Autin, Allen Wayne Buras III, Reagan Winthrop Hill, John Christian Neal, Peter Scott Olson, Brett Edward Pellisier, William Decatur Pritchard and John Mills Pritchard.

Following the grand march of the Royal Court, krewe members and their guests enjoyed a delicious supper by Louisiana Grill and music from Compozitions and Johnny and the Music Makers.

The Lieutenant’s party was held Feb. 2, with the Four Unplugged band, and the Olympia parade rolled in Covington on Feb. 10.
