Bev (center) with Anne Redd, Bob Brown, Darryl Berger Jr. and Jeanette Slakey for the “Soul Revival.” This down-home party on March 10 serves up soul food, gospel and dancing to benefit the Legacy Donor Foundation.
The 26th annual “Sugarplum Ball” is almost here—March 16—and thanks so much to event co-chairs Marilee Hovet and Michelle Romano, who are bringing this event back after a year off. A benefit for Children’s Hospital, funds raised at this year’s event at the Pavilion of Two Sisters benefit the hospital’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Our two other cover models, in addition to Marilee and Michelle, are Isabel Cano and Malcolm Bryan, who are patients at the hospital’s center. “Candyland” is the party theme and the decorations are sure to be amazing. Also sweetening the event is music by Sha’on and the Girls with Success, a buffet of food from the best restaurants in town and a silent auction. ABC26 and General Manager Larry Delia will be honored at the event for their financial commitment to children’s issues. Children’s Hospital is such an important community asset—we all need to support it.
Mardi Gras is on Feb. 20, and with the parades and parties surrounding it, you don’t want to forget Valentine’s Day. “What’s Hot” showcases great gifts and ideas for your favorite significant other. This time of year is also when brides start organizing their weddings, so be sure to check out the most beautiful wedding gowns in our “Couture Wedding Guide.” We also have a listing of local vendors to make planning that much easier.
If you’re looking for something fabulous to wear to all of the parties coming up, you must go to Shoefty Garb at 6010 Magazine St. Sara Winston has been in business for four years, originally selling shoes at the store, but lucky for us she’s expanded her signature “Shoefty style” to men’s and women’s clothing. She always has exclusive lines you won’t find anywhere else unless you go to New York or Los Angeles, so check out her great shoes, accessories, and now men’s and women’s clothing.
All of us love great Mexican food and Felipe’s Taqueria is just to place to go.
It’s located at 6215 S. Miro St., just behind Blockbuster at Claiborne Avenue and Calhoun Street. Start your meal with the absolute freshest and most authentic margaritas in town, then move on to made-to-order tacos, nachos, tostados, quesadillas, burritos and flautas with steak, shrimp, chorizo, pulled pork and grilled chicken. You’ll love everything!
Be sure to support all of our local restaurants and stores—it’s important post-Katrina to help all of our businesses survive and thrive.
Congratulations to my husband, Dr. Johnny Church for climbing Aconcagua in Argentina! He’s my hero!
