Bev Church with Bob Stellingworth, event co-chair Elizabeth Boh, Henri Wolbrette and Frank Glaviano for the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation’s fund-raiser, “Dejeuner for a New Day.” The luncheon is Nov. 29 at the Hilton Hotel, featuring CNN’s Anderson Cooper as the honoree and Ken Feinberg, who worked on the 9/11 Victim’s Fund, as keynote speaker. This group is so important to support—they’re helping the New Orleans Police Department fight crime and keep the city safe. For more information, call 232-0890.
I’m sure you’ve noticed that all of St. Charles Avenue is now printed on glossy paper! We’re so excited about this change and we hope you like it. Can you believe this year marks the 125th anniversary of the Christian Woman’s Exchange! In case you don’t know, the Woman’s Exchange owns the Hermann-Grima/Gallier Historic Houses, so it’s the perfect year for its “Historic Houses Society Gala” to be on the cover. Thanks so much to our cover models: event chairs Susan Brennan and Lois Downing, HG/GH executive director Stephen Moses, board president Janet Daley Duval, and Susu Stall, who along with her husband, Andrew Stall, are hosting this benefit in their incredible Garden District home. The party is Nov. 16 and includes a gourmet meal prepared by chef Haley Gabel of Ralph’s on the Park. Come show your support for this important organization that ensures two of the city’s exquisite historic homes are maintained and open for the public to enjoy.
This is my favorite announcement of the year! Our “Activists of the Year” are Barbara Bush and Dr. Stephen Hales, and our “Unsung Hero” is Ben Johnson of the Greater New Orleans Foundation. All greatly deserve the awards for their unbelievable efforts to make our city the best ever, in spite of the struggles we are facing right now. Read their stories and we hope you’ll get involved in some of their volunteer endeavors.
One way of getting involved is going to any number of fund-raisers that are going on this month, so don’t forget to look at the magazine’s calendar of events on p. 54. And you’ll want to look your best, so check out “Hot Boite” for some of this holiday season’s chicest clothing and accessories.
You’ve got to go to Salvation Body – Fitness, Yoga & Active Wear at 2917 Magazine St., next to Cafe Rani. Toria Richard and Rusty Roussel have put together a great collection of athletic clothing that looks good and fit beautifully when you’re taking yoga, Pilates, running or just “running around.”
Nicole Douger founded New Orleans Pet Care because she didn’t want to leave her beloved black lab, Remy, alone when she went out of town. So many of us are exactly the same way, because we love our pets. New Orleans Pet Care can give you peace of mind by offering pet sitting. She takes the time to learn your pets’ routines and tailor her service to their needs and yours. Also offered is: walking, overnight stays at your home or at a “host” family, and a “chauffeur” service if your pet needs to go someplace and you can’t. Nicole can be reached at 289-6355, or go to www.neworleanspetcare.com.
Be sure to check out my new entertaining column on WWLTV.com. Go to Lifestyles and click on Home and Garden. I’ll have something exciting for you every week, including entertaining ideas, how-tos and recipes.
Remember, be sure to support as many good causes and local businesses as you can—we have a lot more to do to bring our city back. a
